The mitbachon chug (kitchen elective) has been a really fun elective offered the last few years to campers in Ruach (entering 3rd grade) through Nivonim (entering 11th grade).  Every eidah has the opportunity to make a variety of recipes requiring a number of skills such as whipping, making different kinds of dough, and how to read through a recipe and prepare for it from beginning to end. Some recipes require cooking like sushi, pasta, and pancakes. Others like cookies, brownies, and pizza require baking. The recipes are chosen based on level of difficulty and also considering how they can use as many different kinds of utensils and cooking supplies as possible.  Some other recipes include burekas, shakshuka, crunch wraps, and puff pastry with Nutella.

Aside from the cooking skills themselves, the campers learn a lot, including taking responsibility for cleaning up after themselves from start to finish and learning how to say the names of the ingredients in Hebrew. The campers really like the mitbachon chug and are expressing their excitement to try some of the same recipes at home!
