On Sunday, Jewish rock musician Rick Recht came to Camp Ramah. Nivonim campers, practicing the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim, greeted Rick and his family as they drove in to camp. They held up signs, sang his songs, and cheered for Rick upon his arrival. Rick, his wife, and their two sons were welcomed with hugs and handshakes as they exited their van.
After the initial greetings, Rick and his crew got to work transforming the Bet Am into a concert venue. Atzmayim campers helped the band unload the equipment and then had some time to meet and chat with Rick.
Sunday night, Rick performed two concerts–one for the younger eidot and one for the older eidot. Earlier in the afternoon, select campers had rehearsed with Rick and got a chance to perform with him on stage. Campers and staff danced and sang together as Rick performed a mixture of his own music and popular music. The energy in the Bet Am was amazing. You could feel Rick's positive message uniting the camp in song, and everyone had a great time.
Ali (Nivonim): The concert was amazing! It was fun stuff.
Michael (Nivonim): It was so much fun to see Rick Recht live!
