Garinim (entering 5th grade) cabin 2A spent the morning on the ropes course. Each Garinim cabin will have the chance to cross through our green tunnel into camp’s archery and low and high ropes area once this summer for trif (cabin) bonding. They will challenge themselves to trust each other and to go—literally and figuratively—to higher heights than they ever have before.
Gathered in a circle, cabin 2A was prepared by ropes course instructors Daniel Kanter, David Dodelson, Raz Shadmy, Noa Cohen, and David Shmueli as to what they would be doing on the ropes course this morning. They ventured out into the field, going up and down a hill in order to get to our ropes course. They first played some warm up games and then performed a team building low ropes activity: the teeter-totter. Everyone in the cabin had to balance the teeter-totter and sing a song for seven seconds without either end hitting the ground. It took a few tries but they were successful!
Underneath the wooden gazebo at the high ropes course, campers were helped into belays, carabiners, and helmets before forming a line to begin the Flying Squirrel element of our course. One camper at a time was attached to a rope, which the other campers, counselors, and ropes course staff ran and pulled. The camper went flying through the air from the tug of the rope. Along with the sound of gravel and woodchips being trampled upon, you could hear the laughter and see the smiles of every camper there.
