Steven Sacks joins us this year as Rosh Shira, head of songleading. He was on Shira staff last year as well and he can’t wait to be back and continue filling camp with music. From Deerfield, Illinois, Steven was a camper for three summers and this is his second summer on staff. He spent last year on the Kivunim program, an intensive study gap year in Israel, and will attend Indiana University in the fall.
Steven’s favorite thing about camp is the “pause right before Shabbat starts.” You’ll see him on the kikar, in our dining halls and on stage playing one of his six instruments–guitar, saxophone, piano, drums, ukulele and bass. He’s excited to bring new innovations to our shira program. As he says, “Get ready to see a side of Jewish music that you may have never seen before! Jews from Morocco, to Greece, to Turkey, even all the way to India, each have their own spectacular kind of music. It’s my hope that I can help you all increase your ruach for Jewish music from Israel, America and the world!”
