Shalom Halutzim 2017! My name is Ari Vandersluis and I am so excited to be your Rosh Eidah (unit head) this summer!
A little about me… I am currently in my third year at The Ohio State University where I am studying Business Operations Management and am working toward eventually going to medical school. I grew up in the birthplace of aviation, Dayton, Ohio and have lived in Ohio my entire life! Before I came to one of the greatest universities in the country, I lived in Israel for a year on Nativ College Leadership gap year program. There, I spent my time teaching English to 5th and 6th graders just like you in the middle of the desert. I loved living in the desert and getting the chance to hike and explore the beautiful scenery. In my free time, I love to travel, hike, and eat delicious food.
This will be my 10th summer at Camp Ramah and Halutzim was actually my very first summer at Camp. Some of my fondest memories at camp included bonding with my cabin in our camping trip, enjoying great conversations on the Kikar, and swimming in the beautiful, and sometimes very cold Lake Buckatabon. Your staff and I will be there to make sure you are making those same awesome memories. Halutzim is Hebrew for “Pioneers” and I know you will be the pioneers of camp this summer. My Halutzim summer is when I fell in love with camp and I cannot wait to help you do the same. I am so excited to meet you all in just a few short months.
See you soon! Ari
